FED:Rudd welcomes OSCE rebirth

Foreign Minister KEVIN RUDD has welcomed the rebirth of the key European security cooperation
organisation.

Mr RUDD says the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe has a continuing
role to play in the many current security challenges in Europe and Central Asia.

He's been attending the OSCE summit in Kazakhstan .. and says the return of the organisation
is a tribute to the host .. the Kazakhstani President.







OSCE was founded in the mid-1970s to ease Cold War tensions and also to further economic
cooperation and human rights in the Communist bloc.

The organisation now has 56 participating states and 12 partners for cooperation ..

including Australia.
